The Thunder Rolls ... And the Lightning Strikes

{via}

Around Noon, the skies were cloudy ... with a little sunshine peeking through. The kids ran through the backyard, soaking up what little time they had to get fresh air. By 4pm, the thick, dark clouds were rolling it, and it was only a matter of time. 6pm we sat down to dinner, and it wasn't long before the rain started to pelt the back porch. It didn't start as a sprinkle and progress. It was just like the sky opened up and all Hell broke loose. Wind whipped the rain against the siding, sounding like hail stones. The kids weren't the biggest fans, so we all huddled together on the couch, watching what little cartoons we could get to come in, and playing until we got close to bedtime. We distracted ourselves with fingernail painting and monster hunting. And when the clock approached 730pm, we knew bedtime was upon us and we needed a plan of action.

Thankfully, there was a break in the storm, and we were able to get the kids down to bed with little complication. L was so tired he passed out without a sound once his head hit the pillow. S was a little reluctant, though, and got up to "check on us" a few times before finally staying put. By 9pm, though, the storms were back. Thunder clapped. Lightning struck. And the wind was howling outside the windows. I climbed in bed with S to comfort her, and we soon were joined by L, who only woke briefly, and passed out again as soon as he knew Mama was near. He slept and snored through the whole storm, as I lay snuggled up with my babies.

Tornadoes touched down in our area -- but thankfully, none in our yard. Here's to hoping the next few days of rain and storms goes just as smoothly!
