So many people give Walmart a bad rap. And while I'll be the first to admit that, yes, I'd rather do my shopping for SO MANY THINGS at Target, I'm also not a fan of the drive into town all the time to get to the nearest location for us. You see -- we live sort of ... in the middle of nothing. Well, technically, we are in the middle of two bigger towns. But each is a good 20 to 30 minute drive in either direction. To get to the restaurants, the movie theaters, the better shopping areas, we have to drive a little while. Our town now has a Walmart Express, which for last second dinner prep items has been a God-Send. We have a few gas stations. A Piggly Wiggly. And a Bojangles. So when its cold, or rainy, and we want to get out of the house, we either have to drive, or compromise on where we'd rather be.
Enter the Walmart 10 minutes away. A Super Walmart, this store is much bigger than anything else in our area. And we can roam. In fact, we wind up there at least a couple times a month, just to pick up one or two small things, and still manage to spend at least an hour, just roaming the aisles, looking at this or that, to kill some time out of the house. Thankfully, I was blessed with great kids! You see -- I know that anytime we go to the store, they are going to ask to look at the toys. But unlike some other two and four year olds, they never once ask to buy anything! They are content to look, play for a moment, and continue on, to see what the shelves might hold. Occasionally, they find something small, and their eyes light up -- and I just can't deny them that happiness, so it finds it's way into our cart. It doesn't happen often. And when it does, the kids are appreciative.
Which makes me appreciative for that store. That stand-alone building, in the middle of our nowhere. The place my children wander and dream about toys and games. A place that often, their imagination can run wild.
[Walmart does not know about this -- I was not paid for my opinion on their store.]
Nothing better than wandering the aisles of big stores, so fun!
ReplyDeleteI love to do the same. Checking out all the new stuff. I can't take my kids though because they do ask for everything. Roaming the aisles is better alone for me :)
