Family Time, Firefighter Dinners and Fathers Day: Our Weekend In Review

What a busy weekend -- but definitely packed with fun! Saturday morning, bright and early, we got the kids up and dressed and headed out to have a cook out with some family. It was my father-in-law's birthday, and we were looking forward to seeing everyone, and letting the kids run around playing all afternoon. We fired up the grill, kicked back in lawn chairs, and enjoyed the sun and the conversation. And of course, the kids loved that the day included cake and ice cream! We came home late afternoon -- and surprisingly, only one of the kids napped in the car -- S, the one who normally doesn't! I immediately fell asleep from all the sunshine and fresh air once we got in the house -- but the kids wanted nothing to do with that, and kept throwing things at me and poking me. L even climbed up on me a few times, asking me, "Why you sleeping, Mommy!?" About 30 minutes later, I woke up from the cat nap and we got ready to head to the local fire station for a pancake dinner. Filled our bellies, ran around with friends, and came home for sleep.

Of course, Sunday was Father's Day. We decided to keep the day lowkey -- exactly what M wanted for "his day". We slept in, all of us. Got ready quickly and headed to a great sermon at church. We came home, let the kids run around for a bit outside and play, while I did some cleaning. And then we all sat down to lunch together before nap time. Once the kids woke up, we played more, ran around in the back yard, and cooked a good dinner -- steak and bacon-wrapped sweet potatoes, just what the Daddy requested! We spent the rest of the evening getting ready for the week ahead.

The weekend sure flew by -- but they say that's what happens when you're having fun!
