4th of July Fireworks

We had originally planned to head to base on the 3rd to watch their fireworks display with the kids. But with all the rain we've had, it was no surprise that it continued to rain that night, cancelling the show.

So we took the kids to town to see their fireworks on the 4th.

In years past, we have been at the beach, and haven't taken them to an actual fireworks show, instead just watching from the beach house as other families set theirs off from a backyard nearby. So the kids had never truly experienced the magic that comes from a real Fourth of July fireworks!

We got there an hour early, found a good spot, and set out some chairs for the kids. Within a few short minutes, they had made friends with the little boy parked next to us.

He shared his Pop-Its with S, and gave each of the kids a glow in the dark bracelet. They were over the moon.

So when it started to get a little dark, and the boy started to dance [minus any music, of course!!], our kids joined right in. And didn't stop dancing until the fireworks started!

She was so excited, and having so much fun, she just couldn't stand still

The kids all sat together, and at one point, I looked down and saw S had wrapped her arm around the boy. They talked the whole time, giggled and ooh'd and ahh'd. It was adorable!

Both kids stayed awake talking the entire drive home, but passed out as soon as they hit the pillow. They loved the fireworks -- so we'll definitely be taking them to base later this summer when they make up their fireworks!
