5 for Five

Another Monday is upon us. If you are lucky, you aren't working today -- it being Presidents Day, and all. But, if you are a stay at home mom, like me -- you don't get paid holidays. I'll call it a good day if we have less than five fights/tantrums between siblings over silly things. And if they both take good naps ... although the chances of those BOTH happening are pretty slim. Anyways ...

FantasticallyAverage

Last week's goals:

1. Call the Dentist about L.: It happened ... but not exactly the way I wanted. L.'s tooth completely fell out mid-nap on Tuesday. The dentist is thinking he had a fracture from a fall at some point that no one ever really noticed, even though the peds have checked the teeth at my request. But we got that one taken care of -- he'll just have a gapped smile until his adult teeth come in in a few [or six] years.

2. Dig out the totes of kids clothes from the barn and find the summer clothes we are going to sell: The totes are in the house. All the clothes have been sorted. I just need to go through some of the things in S.'s closet from last summer to see what we can get rid of. And look around for some of their older toys they no longer use and the like. Then I can print tags and find hangers, etc.

3. Cook one meal out of a cookbook in my kitchen: Friday night, I made Chicken and Dumplings out of one of the cookbooks on my bookshelf -- and I am so glad that I did. It was the best meal we had had in a long time ... and really hearty. Definitely a stick-to-your-ribs kind of meal. So yummy!

4. Figure out a schedule for the kids when M. starts working a 5-day week: Have the schedule all figured out. Two days a week where we will stay at home and get our cooking and cleaning and projects done. And the rest of the time where we will run errands and go do fun things for the kids [parks and playgrounds and story time at the library]. Really looking forward to March 4th -- when M. finally gets his promotion and starts the new job!!

5. Drink 2 glasses of water for every glass of soda: A few times I had to remind myself to drink a little more water -- but I've already found that just by drinking some water first, I don't drink the soda nearly as fast, and therefore am not going through a 2-liter as fast as I was. Which was the point!

5 out of 5??! Wow! Not too shabby, if I say so, myself! Lets see if we can do it again!

This weeks goals include:

1. Invite our friends over for a good meal and conversation: Its been awhile since we've had friends over. Its kind of hard when we have two young kids that have bedtimes and eat dinner at a certain time, and none of our other friends do. But its nice every once in a while to get together with adults besides ourselves and just talk ... about things other than potty training and temper tantrums!

2. Put all of the items for the sale in the spare closet, and the totes back outside: The kids decided this week that they wanted to play with everything I had hauled out for the sale. And its annoying the crap out of me, honestly. Clothes ... toys ... a play mat. Everything is scattered everywhere, no matter how many times I clean it all up. So I need to figure out everything Im going to sell and just put it all in the front closet.

3. Finally call about getting Trash Pick Up: Im tired of the neighborhood cats trying to eat holes in our garbage bags because our lids dont stay on ... and frankly, Im tired of waiting around for my father-in-law to come pick it up. Not looking forward to having to pay three months' removal up front, but we need to get it done!

4. Read a chapter a day Monday through Friday: The same thing happened when I read the first of the 50 Shades of Grey books ... I just stalled out. I should have known better than to try to read such a popular series. Ive never gotten into the big ones in the past [Harry Potter, Twilight, etc] I figured since this wasn't fantasy I might be able to get into it ... but the writing isn't the best. And honestly ... even if you are into reading erotica from time to time ... theres just TOO much and not enough story. But it was a birthday present ... so I feel like I should just truck on through and finish them.

5. Spend one evening with M. completely computer-free: We coexist in the same room ... and converse in the evenings ... but he's in his chair watching tv and messing around on his phone. And Im on the computer. We are becoming that old married couple. We need to carve out some more time for each other ... even if we are just laying on the same couch watching the same show!

What are your goals this week? And remember to head over and link up with Jessica and Jenn!

  2. #5 is a great goal. I have been trying to get my husband to do a night without electronics, but maybe we will start with no computers/phones.

    1. With my husband's work schedule, we go to bed fairly early. And with very little family around, its hard to get a night out together. So our "dates" usually are here at home with a DVR'd show or movie ... but at least we can lose the computers and phones for a bit, hopefully!! :)
