Getting Married?!!?

[The soon-to-be newlyweds]

S. walked into the kitchen with her brother in tow, carrying my big, red spatula. She was dressed in a pink blanket, high heals to match.

And she announced that she was getting married.

To a prince.

"I'm a grown-up now," she told me.

[Showing off her lovely bouquet of flowers, and her lovely wedding gown]

I just looked at her, smiling. Happy that she was using her imagination -- and that her dreams were big enough to include princes and princesses, kings and queens.

I asked her what getting married means, did she know.

Her response?

"When people get married they kiss and hug. And they drink from boobies..."

My mouth just sort of ... fell open. I know in reality she meant that when you are grown up and married that you can have babies, and that babies nurse to get their milk. She knows this ... she sees me feeding L. all the time.

I guess I just didn't expect that to come out of her mouth in response to the question. Kissing and hugging, sure ... boobies, though?

Children truly are innocent creatures.

[A stolen tender moment between the lovely couple]

I can't wait to remind her of these things when she's 16. Or 21. And sitting around the house with her boyfriend ... or soon to be husband.

    1. She absolutely does! She spent all of yesterday's grocery shopping trip doing the pageant "princess" wave. When I asked her why she was doing it she told me "Well ... Daddy SAID Im the princess ... duh!" Uh oh
